The following summer update was emailed to all OFHS parents on Thursday, July 6th:

Dear Bulldog Families,

We hope everyone is enjoying summer vacation.  It is an exciting time for Olmsted Falls High School as we prepare for our renovation projects to get underway.  Since the building will look (and feel) very different this year, we wanted to send out information to help plan for a smooth transition into the 2017-2018 school year.  Again, we cannot thank you enough for your support.

Listed below, you will find updates relating to both our high school facility as well as important dates.  Please note that pre-construction preparation work is already taking place in the building and will continue throughout the summer, which may restrict access to portions of the building at times.  Please read over the following information carefully and contact the main office any time after August 4, 2017 at (440) 427-6100 should you have any questions or concerns.

Pre-Construction: Abatement Process

As we begin to prepare for construction, please know that parts of the high school building are undergoing an abatement process.  Each area involved is completely sealed off during its portion of the process and will NOT be accessible to students, staff or visitors.  A professional abatement company, expert at following strict protocols, is being used to complete this necessary pre-construction project.  In addition to completely sealing off each respective area, this company also uses specialized filters that ensure removal of all material, so that no one is in danger of exposure at any point in the process. This pre-construction project will be completed ahead of the first day of school.  

General Facility Update

You will start to see additional construction preparation work as early as the last week in July.  The parking lot (closest to the Auxiliary Gym) will be closed once construction begins. You will also see fencing go up in the grass field area next to the Board of Education office along Bagley Road - as this area will serve as a construction staging zone during the expansion and renovation project.  There will also be changes in traffic patterns that will go into effect with the start of the new school year. Please watch for additional information on this in August.

Summer Training for OTPD/OFPD – July 28, 2017

On July 28, 2017, the Olmsted Township Police Department and the Olmsted Falls Police Department will be conducting a training session for their personnel at Olmsted Falls High School.  The sessions will take place in the Academic Wing; the Academic Wing will be closed during this training day.  The training session is in conjunction with our A.L.I.C.E. protocol.  Any student athletic activities scheduled for this date WILL take place as planned - including the mCore screening (see below). OFHS will Tweet a reminder out the day before this training session to ensure that nobody is alarmed by the increased police presence that will be on-site.

mCore Screening – July 28, 2017

On July 28, 2017, from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., we will be partnering with mCore to provide screenings for SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest).  The mCore screenings will take place in the OFHS Training Room, with participants entering through the door on the far west side of the building (near the classroom trailers).  The cost is $75.00 and pre-registration is required at www.mCOREathletes.com

Important Dates for 2017-2018

• Freshman Orientation:  August 21st from 7:26 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. – Incoming freshmen will be the only students in the building at this time and our faculty and staff will be on hand to help navigate through a mini-schedule, homeroom, lockers, and student expectations.  All other students (grades 10-12) will follow our LATE START schedule and begin their school day at 9:16 a.m. on August 21, 2017. Transportation will be running for both the 9th graders as well as all others who can arrive with the late start schedule.

• High School Open House:  August 28th  – Please plan to join us from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for the annual OFHS Open House event.

• Quarter and Semester End Dates:
  • ?Q1:  October 17, 2017
  • Q2:  December 14, 2017
  • Semester Exams: December 15-19, 2017
  • Q3:  March 9, 2017
  • Q4:  May 31, 2017
  • Semester Exams: (Underclass) May 29-31, 2017

School Day Information 

• School Hours: The school day will officially begin at 7:26 a.m.and end at 2:16 p.m.  Students who have AP Physics, AP Chemistry, CCP Biology, or AP United States History have been informed they might be attending lab at 7:05 a.m.   All other students need to arrive for their 1st period class by 7:26 a.m.  Students who are scheduled for Sports Performance will be in school until 2:55 p.m.  Please plan accordingly.

• High School Busing:  Students will arrive at approximately7:05 a.m. and leave at approximately 2:50 p.m. 

• Summer Class Assignments:  All summer work and summer reading has been posted on the OFHS website.
