March 16, 2006 – The Board of Education voted unanimously at its monthly Board Meeting to approve the hiring of Mr. Donald R. Svec as the new principal of Fitch Intermediate School, which serves more than 525 students in grades 4 and 5 in the Olmsted communities. Mr. Svec, who is currently the assistant principal at Olmsted Falls Middle School, will assume his new position at Fitch effective August 1, 2006, prior to the start of the new school year.

“Mr. Svec brings to Olmsted Falls Schools a solid background of both administrative and classroom experience, as well as a passion for educating children that is inspiring,” said Dr. Todd F. Hoadley, Superintendent of Olmsted Falls Schools. “His leadership and belief in data-based decision making will be a tremendous asset to Fitch Intermediate and the District as a whole.”

An educator with more than 15 years of experience, Mr. Svec has served as assistant principal at Olmsted Falls Middle School since fall 2003. Prior to joining the administrative team at Olmsted Falls Schools, Mr. Svec worked as an administrator for Westlake City Schools for four years. He began his educational career as a 6th grade teacher for Perkins Local School District in Sandusky, where he taught for eight years.

Mr. Svec will succeed retiring Fitch principal Ervin Reed, who has been with the Olmsted Falls School District for 20 years. Mr. Reed has served as principal of Fitch Intermediate since 1996.

“I am honored to have been selected as the next principal of Fitch Intermediate School,” said Mr. Svec. “I believe in making decisions based on what is in the best interest of children, and look forward to leading the staff on a continued path of excellence.”

Mr. Svec holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Youngstown State University, and Master of Educational Administration degree from Ashland University.

His wife, Brenda, who holds a marketing degree from Kent State University, is currently pursuing an education degree with plans to enter the teaching field once their youngest (currently age 4) starts school. Mr. Svec and his wife have three children.

A staff reception will be held on Monday, March 20th at 2:45 p.m. to formally introduce Mr. Svec to his new staff and welcome him to the building.
