Olmsted Falls Intermediate School will be closed TODAY – Thursday, January 29TH – due to an isolated hazardous material spill that took place late Wednesday afternoon after all students had left the building.  A small amount of mercury (less than the size of a dime) was accidentally released when an object broke in the art room.  Olmsted Township Fire Department responded and requested the services of a Hazardous Materials team out of an abundance of caution. 

While the initial spill has been cleaned up, further testing by the Hazardous Materials Team indicates that additional clean-up is required to completely eliminate the contaminate from the immediate area.  Therefore, Olmsted Falls Intermediate School will be closed today to all students and staff – with the exception of food service and custodial staff.

This school closure notification is for the OFIS BUILDING ONLY.  Olmsted Falls Middle School and all other district buildings will be in session as normal today, Thursday, January 29th.

The health and safety of our students and staff is always the top priority.  Please be assured that we are following all guidance and requirements of our local safety forces and the specialized Hazardous Materials team, and we are confident we will resolve this situation.
