Dear Falls-Lenox Parents,

We are very proud of the academic growth and success of all of our students this school year.  In order to maintain the necessary reading skills, such as stamina, decoding, fluency, and comprehension, it important that your child continues to practice reading throughout the summer months.

The primary factor in a child’s reading success is related to the volume of reading a child does over the summer.  Numerous studies indicate a link between independent reading outside of school and improved reading achievement.  A study of 6th graders showed that children who read five or more books over the summer improved in reading.  Those who read between two and four books showed mixed results, and those who read less lost ground.

In order to create a culture of reading at home, please provide your child access to high interest books at his/her reading level, as well as check out the following tips from top literacy experts:  www.ascd.org/eu0514parents.
