Superintendent's Message

Dr. Todd Hoadley
Superintendent
Thank you for visiting the official website of Olmsted Falls Schools.  It is an exciting time for our school system, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to personally highlight a few of our District’s latest achievements.

P.I. Levy Passage

Following a lengthy campaign in support of the critical 5-Year Permanent Improvement Levy for our District, we were pleased to learn that official election results indicate our issue has passed by a margin of 7 votes.  This extremely close decision has triggered an automatic recount, which should take place sometime between now and Friday, December 9th. We remain hopeful that the votes in our favor will stand and that this important tax issue will bring much needed funding to our District to be targeted primarily at renovations at our 43-year-old Olmsted Falls High School building.

Did You Know?  Olmsted Falls School District voting boundaries cross over from Cuyahoga County to Lorain County, so our District’s election results must be certified in two counties.  To review the official results from the November 8th election for our District’s 20 precincts in Cuyahoga County, please click here.  To click the official election results from the November 8th election for our District’s single Lorain County precinct, please click here.

The combined vote totals from both Cuyahoga and Lorain counties for the 5-Year P.I. Levy for Olmsted Falls Schools are as follows:

4,073 FOR THE LEVY

4,066 AGAINST THE LEVY

We will provide a final election update once the automatic recounts have occurred.

Five-Year Forecast
Olmsted Falls School District – like all school districts in Ohio – must submit an updated 5-Year Forecast twice each year (in May and October).  I invite and encourage you to become familiar with our District’s current financial outlook.

Please click here to download the latest 5-Year forecast for our District, which was submitted this past October 2011.  Additionally, you may click here to review the basic set of assumptions with which this forecast was created.

Passage of this most recent P.I. Levy will help to improve the financial outlook for our District and push out further the need for the next operating levy.

OFHS Named to AP Honor Roll
I am very pleased to highlight the fact that Olmsted Falls was recently one of just 23 Ohio school districts named to the prestigious AP Honor Roll by the College Board.

On November 23rd, the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) announced that 23 of the state’s school districts have been named to the Second Annual AP Honor Roll of the College Board.  Olmsted Falls School District is proud to be among this elite list of school districts.  Only 5 other school districts in Cuyahoga County were named this year.

I encourage you to click here to read the complete story as published in the recent edition of Focus Education.

Leading By Example
Olmsted Falls School District continually seeks way in which to increase efficiencies and save money.  Last spring, 12 staff members underwent intensive training in the LEAN Six Sigma program.  Over the course of several months, four teams from our District operations side applied the LEAN Six Sigma methodology to targeted efficiency projects.  These in-depth projects required extensive training, skilled analysis and innovative thinking.  The end products ultimately resulted in increased efficiencies in select areas of District operations.

Recently, in November 2011, members of our District’s LEAN Six Sigma team made a presentation to approximately 150 school district administrators and board members at the annual Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference.  To view a pdf file of the Power Point presentation outlining our District’s experience with LEAN Six Sigma, please click here.  To view a video about the District’s experience with the LEAN Six Sigma training, please click here.

Closing Thoughts

While all school districts continue to face financial challenges in this struggling economy, I am proud of our District’s efforts to stretch dollars and maintain a focus on providing the excellent educational programming that the Olmsted community has come to expect.  Did you know that of the 31 school districts in Cuyahoga County, Olmsted Falls School District is ranked second lowest for expenditures-per-pupil?

In closing, I want to acknowledge that the high quality of our excellent school system is greatly advanced by the quality of support our faculty, staff and administration receive from our parents and community members. We do not get the opportunity to say thank you enough. So, I would like to extend a sincere Bulldog thank you here to all of those who support our students and our schools throughout the year. Your commitment and support truly helps make Olmsted Falls Schools a special place for students.

As we head into the holidays, I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable season and time with family and friends.

As always, I encourage you to contact me at 427-6000 or via e-mail at thoadley@ofcs.net with any questions about our District.

Yours in education,
Dr. Todd F. Hoadley
