UPDATE: Additional Details on OFCS Start of School for Grades 1-12 (8/31/20 8:15 PM)

Dear Bulldog Families with Students in Grades 1 through 12:

We are so pleased to be able to welcome our students back next week as the 2020-2021 school year officially gets underway.  Whether you selected Pathway A or B for your student, we are all in this together and look forward to being able to connect with our students and families.  I am emailing you today with an update on the plan for the first week of school and beyond.  Please read the information carefully as some of it may or may not apply to your student. As mentioned in my email from Friday evening, Olmsted Falls City Schools will begin the school year in a Hybrid model.

Students Who Are in Pathway A (Grades 1-12)

Because the first week of school is a shortened week due to the Labor Day holiday, the first week’s Hybrid schedule will operate differently than in a normal Hybrid week. In an effort to get all Pathway A students into the building and familiar with their new classrooms and important safety protocols, each set of students - Blue (A-K) and Gold (L-Z) - will attend two days in person.

  • The first day of school for the Blue Group (A-K) is Tuesday, September 8th. Blue will attend school in-person on Tuesday, September 8th and Wednesday, September 9th. The first day of remote learning for the Blue group will be Thursday, September 10th.
  • The first day of school for the Gold Group (L-Z) is Thursday, September 10th. Gold will attend school in-person on Thursday, September 10th and Friday, September 11th.  The first day of remote learning for the Gold Group will be the following week (on Monday, September 14th).

Beginning with the week of September 14th, the normal Hybrid schedule will begin. For your convenience, please click HERE to reference the Hybrid calendar for September 2020.

Students Who Are in Pathway B (100% Distance eLearning with OFCS Teachers)

For families that chose Pathway B (100% Distance eLearning with OFCS Teachers), your student’s start date for Distance eLearning will mirror what is happening in the buildings for students in grade 4-12. Pathway B schedules for students in grades K-3 will differ from the building schedules.  Further information for all students in Pathway B will be sent directly from the school buildings by Thursday of this week.

Students Who Are in Pathway B (100% Distance eLearning using Edmentum Platform)

For families that chose Pathway B using the Edmentum Online Learning Platform (which was available to students in grades 6-12), your student’s start date for Edmentum will be on September 8th.  You will be receiving information directly from the school principal regarding how to get started with Edmentum and the staff member who has been assigned to monitor progress.

Note: Families who have students attending the ECC are receiving communication from the ECC Principal regarding his/her schedule.

Again we want to thank you for your continuing patience and support.  Please watch for additional details to be communicated by your child’s respective school building, and plan to reach out to your building principal with specific questions.

Sincerely,

Jim
