Long-time Board of Education Member Joseph Bertrand has submitted his resignation from the board following more than 15 years of dedicated service citing personal reasons. The Board of Education officially accepted Mr. Bertrand’s resignation during their scheduled Work Session on October 1, 2020.  Mr. Bertrand’s resignation is effective immediately, with the October 1 Work Session being his last official meeting.

“Mr. Bertrand is currently our longest serving board member and he will be greatly missed,” said Board President Holly Neumann. “Joe has played a positive and integral role in the leadership of Olmsted Falls City Schools for the last 15 years, including serving multiple terms as board president. He has dedicated countless hours and leaves a legacy of successful district milestones.  We sincerely thank Joe for his service to our school community and wish him all the best.”

The Board of Education will immediately commence with the following required steps to fill the vacant Board position:

1. Advertise the position. (The Board vacancy will be posted on the district’s website no later than October 2, 2020. Notice of the vacancy will also be posted on the district’s official blog and submitted to local newspaper outlets to be published in their notices section.)

2. Seek qualified and interested candidates from the community through the news media, word of mouth, and contacts with appropriate organizations.

3. Ask qualified residents who are interested in filling the vacancy to complete an application expressing their interest and outlining the candidates qualifications no later than October 13, 2020 to the attention of Mrs. Holly Neumann, President, Olmsted Falls Board of Education, 26937 Bagley Road, Olmsted Falls, OH  44138.

4. Appoint the Board Member from the pool of candidates within thirty (30) days after the vacancy occurs (on or before October 31, 2020).

If the Board is unable to make such an appointment by November 1, 2020, according to Ohio Law, the local probate court will fill the vacancy. Once appointed, the individual will serve as our board member for the unexpired term of the seat until December 31, 2021.  If the newly appointed board member desires to continue serving, he or she must run in the next general election held in November of 2021. The winner of that election will take office on January 2, 2022 and serve until January 1, 2024.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the students, staff and community of Olmsted Falls City Schools,” added Mrs. Neumann.  “I encourage anyone who is interested in this opportunity to submit an application.  Our community is filled with wonderful people and I’m confident we will have no shortage of strong candidates.”
