IMPORTANT ALERT: OFCS SCHOOLS TO CLOSE FOR STUDENTS EFFECTIVE FRIDAY, MARCH 13 (Posted 3/12/20, 5:40 p.m.)

Dear Bulldog Families:

We are reaching out again this afternoon with a breaking update regarding the status of school districts in Ohio.  As you know, Olmsted Falls City School District has been carefully monitoring the coronavirus situation and staying in close communication with state and local officials for guidance and direction.  Governor DeWine held another press conference this afternoon during which he announced the closure of all school buildings in the state of Ohio effective this Monday, March 16th.

Olmsted Falls City School District will begin our school closure for students effective immediately.  Tomorrow, Friday, March 13th, will be the first official day of this extended closure for students.  According to the Governor’s mandated three week closure, the return date for students would be Wednesday, April 8th.  Please consider this a tentative return date for Olmsted Falls School District. Additional communication will be provided to confirm.

The district’s spring break will remain in place as scheduled from Friday, April 10th through Friday, April 17th.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT LOGISTICS FOR FAMILIES:

  • All school buildings will be open on Friday, March 13th from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 16th from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for parents / students to enter if needed to pick up personal belongings as well as any medications that may be stored in the school clinic.  If you are not able to come in during those time frames, please contact your building principal directly for assistance.

  • Any ETR, IEP and/or 504 parent meetings already planned for Friday, March 13th and Monday, March 16th will proceed as scheduled.  Should you choose to want to participate by phone instead of an in-person meeting, please contact your case manager.

  • All school buildings will be closed at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, March 16th and no further access will be granted.

  • All athletic practices and games are suspended until further notice.

As we shared in our earlier communication, our administration and staff are currently working to finalize distance learning plans for our students while school is out. Details regarding these plans will be emailed out to parents as soon as possible. All district staff will be reporting on Friday and Monday as we work to finalize details.  Please know that we are collaborating with school districts in our region and are learning that many are following the same closure protocol.

We will continue to communicate with our families via email regarding the logistics surrounding this government mandated closure and its impact on our school community.  PLEASE PLAN TO CAREFULLY MONITOR AND READ ALL EMAILS coming from Olmsted Falls Schools, as well as your child’s specific school building, in the days to come.

I want to personally thank you in advance for your understanding, patience and support in the days and weeks ahead. I know that the break that has been mandated by the Governor creates problems for families. This is uncharted  territory for all of us and we will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Lloyd
